What’s it about?
Everyone wants to be part of The Guild. In the boarding school’s classic game of Killer, Cate is a player. It is all fun in games, “killing” the other players with red paint or a harmless water gun. Until it isn’t. Things become a bit too real and the threat of administration shutting down the game looms over the players heads. Will Cate keep playing the game and catch the real killer? Or will she be next?
My Rating
I loved the unique plot line and the characters were pretty good! Overall, I liked almost every aspect of the book.
What I loved
The characters were pretty good! Everyone is trying to hide their identities in the game, which allows for some very interesting character building! While the characters were pretty standard, the plot allowed for some interesting writing!
The idea was quite unique. The murder mystery game is something that hasn’t been done a whole lot! While the setting was a bit bland and classic, which took away from the plot a bit, the overall idea was well thought out! Also, while the setting is pretty classic, it is still pretty fun!
What I Disliked
I didn’t really dislike a certain part of this book, the reason why the rating is 3.5 stars is because everything that I loved could’ve been done a bit better. I liked the characters, but they weren’t my favs. The plot was good, but it could’ve been better. The idea was unique, but the setting was pretty for a classic murder mystery.
Book vs. Movie
There isn’t a movie for The Assassin Game 🙁
Should You Read It?
This is also a good choice if you don’t want a super “murdery” book because the story is mostly just a game with fake killing! A great choice for newbie murder mystery fans!!!
Conclusion
This book isn’t your average murder mystery. It may have the classic boarding school setting, but the plot and idea is cool and exciting. I liked most of this book, but I just didn’t love it! There isn’t a movie for The Assassin Game, and you should definitely read it if you want a murder mystery book that isn’t too “murdery.” Happy reading!!!
