By Robin DiAngelo
On average, I have read a book every 15 days since the day I was born. Obviously, this doesn’t count for the fact that I was not reading the day I came out of the womb or the years and I hated reading. But the fact is treat out of all of those books, I’ve never not once found someone that acknowledged the difficulties in the complexities of being biracial in America. Sure there’s books that talk about the mixed race experience, but not one outright acknowledged the true complexities of being biracial or multiracial in America.
That first chapter of White Fragility, the author acknowledges she could never fully truly explain the complexities that came with being biracial or multiracial in this society. That statement move me to tears. The feeling of being seen, and having their struggles, acknowledged something I can never explain. It is something so profound that you only truly know it when you felt it. And this book did that for me. And for that, I’ll be forever grateful. So just go read White Fragility, maybe it’ll change your life too.
