Us Against The Likes is a truly moving YA novel that allows for an inside look on the pressures of being an influencer. Marie Voinson’s debut novel is a beautifully raw and heartfelt coming of age story that focuses on a young content creator. Abby Martin dropped out of college to pursue her dreams as a travel influencer, her sister helping her on this journey. Us Against The Likes follows Abby on the ups and downs for her new career, and explores the effects of social media on her mental health. This book offers so many amazing themes, and it is simply beautiful writing. It explores complex familial relationships, and how social media can shape our relationships. The emotions in this book are so tender and meaningful, you will be moved to tears. The character relationships are truly heartwarming, and the romantic subplot is adorable. Not only is this book a fun, exciting read, it depicts life with anxiety in such a raw, honest manner that it makes the reader truly understand. If you struggle with mental health and want to feel represented in literature this book is made for you. It is a truly powerful and inspiring novel that encapsulates the thrills and triumphs that come with life, and it doesn’t skip on out the stuff that hurts.
