What’s it about?
Most peoples’ births aren’t immortalized in a police report—but Olivia was born in the middle of a massacre. Seventeen years later, Olivia’s life looks pretty perfect . . . until she discovers the man she calls dad is not her biological father. Now she needs answers about her bloodline, and the only place she knows to look is the site of the Camp Lost Lake murders.
Most people don’t spend their formative years on the run with an alleged murderer—but Reagan did. In the court of public opinion, her mom was found guilty of the deaths at Camp Lost Lake, and both of them have been in hiding ever since. But Reagan believes in her mother’s innocence and is determined to clear her name.
Luckily for Olivia and Reagan, Camp Lost Lake is finally reopening, providing the perfect opportunity to find answers. But someone else is dead set on keeping the past hidden, even if it means committing murder.
Summary from The StoryGraph
Why I Started This Book
I’m always up for a murder mystery! I saw it on Netgalley, and it looked really good!
My First Thoughts
At first, I was a little confused. I was t quite following the story, but this could be because I started this book late at night and was struggling to stay awake 😂
My Rating
This wasn’t my favorite murder mystery ever, but it was still pretty good!! Here’s the breakdown!
What I loved
I liked the setting of the book!! Yes, an eerie camp is cliche, but I still thought it was well done!! It added to the storyline, and contributed to the horror aspect of the novel!
I loved the POVs and the “flashbacks.” The POVs made the book really interesting! Also, I loved how the little chapters that go back in time slowly reveal more and more!! Very well written!
I liked how it had you guessing until the end! It was quite mysterious, and I was all over the board on my guess for the murderer! This made it a very well-constructed mystery!!
What I Disliked
This might just be me personally, but I was slightly confused at times. This was because a lot of the characters were related, and this made it slightly hard to follow at times. Then again, this could just be me!!
Book vs. Movie
There’s no movie for this book ☹️
Should You Read It?
Yeah! If you’re looking for a new murder mystery, I’d recommend this to you!! It’s a good read for anyone who likes an intriguing YA mystery! I will caution you that there is a hint of horror in this novel! I’m usually not a horror reader, and this wasn’t very scary for me!
Conclusion
Two Sides to Every Murder is a great murder mystery that has a hint of horror! I loved the POVs, the setting, and more!! While I was confused at times, the read was still enjoyable!
