A Bookish Girl’s Ponderings – Thursday’s Thoughts: eBooks

Hey guys!! Back with another Thursday’s Thoughts!! Today we’ll be talking about eBooks!!! There’s so many different opinions witb eBooks, so I’m here to give you my take on the pros and cons of eBooks!! I use both eBooks and physical books!! This all just based on my personal experience with reading, so let me know what you think in the comments below!!

Pros

So let’s start off with some pros to eBooks and eReaders compared to a physical book!! One thing I personally like a lot about eBooks are their size! When I’m out and about, I don’t want to lug around this huge book, and eReaders or even a phone are a great alternative! You can have endless books with one tiny device!! Plus, if you have them loaded on the your phone too, you can easily access the book(s) really quickly!! This is an especially great way to get a couple pages in here and there!!

So I like to read while lying on my side, a lot. But it doesn’t really work when I’m reading a physical book. That’s one of my favorite perks of eBooks, because you can read while be a bit more lazy!!

When reading an eBook, there are endless options that you can super easily check out from the library within seconds! This is super useful if you want to jump right into the next read! It also is nice because you don’t have to stop by the library or the store!!

When reading an eBook, there are so many features you can customize!! You can change the background and text color, text size and font, margins, and my personal favorite, continuous scrolling!! All these features are extremely useful!! Also, if you want to read faster, continuous scrolling is super useful since then you don’t have move your eyes, which slows you down!!

Okay, for all you guys that love vocab, eBooks offer a great feature!! All kindle eBooks have a dictionary in them, so you can super easily look up the definition of a word!! This can be a super useful feature, one that I personally use a lot!!

Cons

Books are such a great way to disconnect from our tech-filled world, but when you read eBooks you increase your screen time. This is also annoying since you probably don’t want to read on a screen before bed! For me personally, this is one of the biggest cons of eBooks!

Everyone loves the classic feel and smell of a physical book! Reading a physical book honestly just hits different!! There’s something so relaxing and fun about reading a real book that you can hold in your hands!! Obviously, eBooks don’t have this, which is very sad 😦

eBooks are more expensive, sorta. While you can pick up just any old book at the library and read it, you need some sort of device to read an eBook. Since you probably don’t want to read on your phone, you’ll need an iPad, Kindle, or eReader!!

And finally, sometimes you just don’t want to read on a screen. Sometimes, you’d just rather read on paper. Sometimes, it just feels better to read on paper!
