What’s it about?

Every girl wants to be chosen for The Selection. After all, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. 35 girls will get to live at the palace and compete to win the charming Prince Maven’s heart. While most girls would kill to be part of the selection, it’s America Singer’s worst nightmare. She already has her life planned out, and a boy from home already owns her heart. But when she is chosen, she eventually begins to dream of what life could be like if she won.

My Rating

This book had a a lot of good aspects, and a lot of not so good aspects. The book is quite entertaining, but the idea is a little bland. (So much so that I didn’t read this one for a while!)

What I loved

As I mention later in my review, the storyline is quite cliche. But after reading it, I realized there is a lot of depth to the story. The political parts and the castes make it very interesting. This also adds some great themes!

The story is well paced!! I was constantly interested in the story, and it was gripping!! So much so that I started this book at 11 pm and finished at 2:30!! Oopsie 😬

This is a great read that’s is very easy to read! The Selection was a great way to unwind with a very chill book!

This book has won the love of millions across the world. It’s an extremely popular YA dystopian romance novel! One of the reasons I believe this is so popular is because it’s a romance novel without too much romance, aka it’s good for younger readers! I think it’s special that Kiera Cass could write a book like this!!

What I Disliked

The storyline is kinda cliche. I mean come on, a competition to win the heart of a prince. That’s one of the most ridiculous and un-creative plots I’ve ever heard.

Book vs. Movie

So this one’s kinda complicated. Netflix has the rights, and was planning to release the moving sometime early 2023. Obviously, that didn’t happen. They ended up canceling their plans to make the movie, and they recently finalized scrapping the idea mid 2023. They will still have the rights to the movie, but Netflix had no plans to make a movie.

Should You Read It?

I would recommend this to most people!! If you like a fun, quick read, this is perfect for you!! If you want something deeper, with a lot of meaning, have check out my five star review page!

Conclusion

This book is about a 32 girls competing to win a princes heart. I gave this book a 3 star rating because the book was good, but the storyline was a bit dull! This book isn’t for everyone, but you might like it if you want a fun read!! Happy reading!!!
