What’s it about?
There’s no hunger, disease, or war, and there’s no death. In a world where humanity has conquered death, it’s up to Scythes and only Scythes to keep the population in check. Citra and Rowan never wanted to be chosen to apprentice a Scythe, but they are. Together, they learn the art of death, and they are thrown into a life they never expected they’d lead. But only too soon do they realize that the power to end human life comes with an even greater burden.
My Rating
Scythe was an enjoyable read that was very thought-provoking. The concept was super unique, and very well executed!
What I loved
The concept was so clever! I heard about this book from a friend, and instantly added it to my TBR! I’ve never heard of a book quite like this, it was so interesting and unique!
The characters are pretty fun! They embody the book perfectly, and add so much to the story. They are unique, and intriguing. Both POVs are well written, which means every chapter is enjoyable!!
The execution of this idea was top-notch. Too often I read books where the concept is cool, but it isn’t executed to its full potential. This is definitely not the case for Scythe, Neal Shusterman’s writing talent makes this a wonderful read!
What I Disliked
The pace is a little slow at times, especially later in the series. This made it a bit harder to get through the last book in the series, The Toll, which is a bit longer.
Book vs. Movie
There is currently no movie for Scythe ☹️
Should You Read It?
Yes! I know a lot of people have enjoyed this book, and I think you might too! If you like YA or think the concept sounds cool, add this book to your TBR!!
Conclusion
Scythe is about a world where humanity has conquered death, and only Scythe’s have the power to take human-life. I loved so many aspects of this book, and my only complaint is that the books later in the series are somewhat slow-placed. You should definitely read Scythe! A helpful hint, scythe is pronounced like “sithe!” Happy read!!!
