Thanks so much to Tor Teen for sending me a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Lies We Conjure by Sarah is an exciting young adult mystery novel that has a unique twist of magic. Ruby and Wren are just your average sisters. Both of them are working for the summer hoping to make a little extra money for when college comes around in the fall, but suddenly an opportunity to make some quick cash comes along. All they have to do is impersonate two sisters at a house party for a couple of hours, then they can walk away four thousand dollars richer. But if only it was that easy. And it should’ve been, until someone got murdered. Now everyone’s a suspect, and no one is guaranteed to make it out alive. The Lies We Conjure is a thrilling novel that is blaringly unique with its complex plot and its distinctive characters. The book perfectly blends excitement and thrill with its fast paced plot, and never ending mystery. The characters all have a fabulous level of depth and complexity that is slowly built upon throughout the novel. Each character is very distinctive, which adds a thoughtful touch to the novel. While the majority of this novel was exciting and enjoyable to read, there was a very complex family plot. This made it hard to follow at times, and I struggled to keep the family tree straight. I greatly wished that a family tree was included at the beginning of the novel, but eventually I was able to understand the familial ties of the characters. Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot, but it wasn’t necessarily the perfect book for me. I liked many aspects of the plot, but I was confused about the characters for the greater portion of the story. Even though this wasn’t necessarily my favorite novel, I believe that it is a perfect book if you want a mystery novel, but you’re tired of the same old plot twists. It is also perfect if you loved Knives Out, or similar mysteries with a family focused plot.
