A Bookish Girl’s Ponderings: Tuesday’s Quote to Stay Afloat #5

“What’s the point of having a voice if you’re gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn’t be?”

– Angie Thomas, The Hate U Give

The Hate U Give is an extremely powerful book that has many amazing themes. One of these themes is about speaking up and using your voice even when it is difficult. This quote is so beautiful, and it encapsulates this theme perfectly. It is so important for us to speak up whenever we can, even when it is difficult. The quote talks about how even when times are tough, and it’s difficult to stand up for yourself and others, you should. It helps enforce the idea that when we stay silent in the moments we shouldn’t there simply is no point in having a voice in the first place. While it may be easier to be silent, we must learn to use our voices in those moments.
